Parametric equations are a way of expressing the variables we are interested in (often \(x\) and \(y\)) in terms of another variable, called the parameter.
For example, \[ \begin{array}{c} x=\cos u \\ y=\sin u \end{array} \] is a parametric set of equations describing a unit circle centred at the origin.
