A meridian is a line on the earth’s surface which passes through the north and south poles and crosses the equator at right angles. It is half of a great circle.
The points on a meridian all have the same longitude.
The prime (or principal) meridian is the one passing through Greenwich, London. This, by convention, has zero longitude.
