Why use this resource?

Completing the Sudoku requires solving simultaneous linear equations and applying common sense. A good introduction to systems of equations for students used to only dealing with two equations and two variables.

Possible support

The Suggestion offers some ideas to those who may be unsure how to start such as looking at the equations only involving two letters and writing down the possible values, given each letter must be a number between \(1\) and \(9\).

Possible extension

When the Sudoku are complete, students could be asked to think whether less information could have been given. Can they reduce the number of equations given, but still make sure the answers can be found?
